Located in Nom village, Dai Dong commune, Van Lam district, Hung Yen province, the two-story Nôm Villa spans 280m2 with outstanding architecture, serving as a peaceful retreat for a couple in their 70s.

On weekends, their children and grandchildren studying and working in Hanoi gather here for family gatherings, so the owners desired a simple living space that harmonizes with the local surroundings of the village, which has a history of over 300 years.

Architect Nguyen Thanh Phuong and team proposed a design solution that reflects traditional Northern architecture, blurring the line between humans and nature, allowing the homeowners to enjoy life to the fullest.

The construction consists of 2 floors, covering 280m2 built on a 480m2 plot of land in Nom village, a historic and cultural village.

Various elements such as verandas, tiled roofs, village gates, courtyards, and corridors were strategically utilized to enhance aesthetics, improve climate, and enhance spatial connectivity.

To cater to the functional needs, the architects divided the structure into two main blocks to interact with the front road and reduce the overall volume. Additionally, they used black Lai Chau stone roof tiles, a material that withstands various weather conditions, maintains harmony with the village, and optimizes wind direction.

Due to the elongated frontage and limited depth of the land plot, the construction was done close to the land borders, restricting the space available for a garden. To address this issue, the architects adjusted the building height to create a landscape axis connecting an artificial garden inside to the greenery and water in front of the house.

Two access paths were created for convenience – the main entrance leading to a large main hall with a long veranda showcasing traditional Northern design, while the secondary entrance provides easy access to the gate and garden.

The use of large glass walls around the garden enhances spatial connectivity and blurs the boundaries between humans and nature.

The combination of materials like tiles, stones, wood, and raw concrete, with a focus on the dualistic tiled walls, creates a rustic and serene ambiance suitable for a vacation villa.

After 1.5 years of construction and completion, the villa now offers a serene living space for the elderly couple and serves as an ideal retreat for the family to relax and unwind during weekends.
