A homeowner in Da Nang owns a 100m2 plot of land. The homeowner’s wish is to have a space that ensures privacy for family members when needed, but still fosters connection between two generations of the family.
After conducting a site survey and understanding the homeowner’s preferences, architect Le Quang Trung came up with the idea of building a townhouse with a roof system designed in the Hoi An architectural style. The roof has a modern twist in its design to harmonize with the overall structure.
At first glance, many people may think that the house “has no roof” due to the modern twist on the roof design with small window openings resembling doors.
This roof design not only adds a unique beauty to the house but also allows for ample natural light and ventilation. Additionally, it helps reduce heat radiation and the impact of heavy rainfall common in the central region.
For Vietnamese people, family meals are essential for bonding and nurturing relationships. Therefore, the architect and team chose the dining area as the focal point of the house.
The dining table is placed in the center of the house and below the open floor, showcasing a high level of connectivity. The house does not have a common living room. Most family activities take place in the dining area.
The homeowner wants family meals to be held in a natural setting with cool shade from trees, reminiscent of meals in the countryside. Therefore, the architect designed a small green landscape here.
The greenery also serves as a close member of the family, witnessing the growth, development, and maturation of the household members on a daily basis. The architect skillfully creates a connection between nurturing a plant and nurturing a happy family.
Utilizing pre-cast concrete lam to replace traditional solutions, architects created a light strip to reduce heat radiation, creating a comfortable environment at the dining table during sunny afternoons.
The house is oriented towards the southeast, a good wind direction. Therefore, the architect designed an “airway” for easy airflow through the spaces, creating convection in the house.
