The apartment mentioned is located in a residential area in Gia Lam, Hanoi. The owner is a single man who desires a modern design style.
The homeowner’s desire led the architecture team to study technical drawings. Realizing that the actual conditions only allowed for breaking through 1/3 of the dividing wall between the two apartments, the team decided to design an arched gate to cover the two large concrete columns in this wall segment.
The large arch gate also became a focal point of the design, creating an impressive look for the living room. The merging of the two apartments led to significant changes in the functionality and size of the rooms. The living room and dining room were opened up quite spaciously.
The architect removed a kitchen area and doubled the remaining kitchen space, while also adding a working room separated by a glass partition. All the interior furnishings in the apartment were made of imported oak wood, manufactured in Vietnam.
The working room is separated by a curved tempered glass partition and curtain to maintain privacy for the homeowner without feeling cramped.
According to the architect, glass makes the space lighter and more airy, replacing the heaviness of walls. Glass structures are lighter and thinner than walls, saving space and allowing for faster construction and installation.
The kitchen area, furnished in white with coordinated dishes and utensils, exudes a sophisticated and modern, clean look.
By choosing a Nordic style, the architect catered to the homeowner’s preference for a light, comfortable, and minimalist space with a focus on natural light.
Lighting helps to keep the apartment from feeling dark and gloomy, especially in the cold season. The bedroom follows this style with a long window system, expanding the space.
To complete the apartment to the homeowner’s liking, the construction team had to work continuously for two months. The total area of the combined apartment is 110m2. The renovation cost of the apartment was more than 600 million VND.
