Recently, a female customer N.H (23 years old, Hanoi) shared a post expressing her frustration about a meal at the spicy noodle restaurant Seoul Deli, located in Chua Lang (Dong Da, Hanoi).
Specifically, N.H and her boyfriend went for dinner at this noodle restaurant. She ordered two bowls of spicy seafood noodles and a portion of tokbokki. About an hour later, the staff brought all the dishes, and as she was about to eat, N.H was horrified to discover a large cockroach about 2 centimeters long lying belly-up on top of the noodle bowl.
“I felt goosebumps. A cockroach, if seen only from the outside, would scare many people, but this one appeared right inside the food bowl, the bowl of food that I almost put into my mouth. I still can’t believe my eyes,” N.H recalled.
The female customer also mentioned that she couldn’t understand how such a large cockroach, equivalent to a small shrimp, was lying on top of the noodle bowl without the kitchen staff and waiters noticing and still serving it to customers.
Even when she reported it to the staff, they had to look twice before seeing the cockroach.
“When they discovered it, this staff member did not offer any apology to me, nor suggest any solutions. This person just asked me what type of noodles I ordered, and the level of spiciness, then turned around to report to the kitchen,” N.H expressed her frustration with the staff’s handling of the situation.
Later, a new bowl of noodles was brought to replace the one with the cockroach, but the staff still did not apologize. Due to the psychological trauma of seeing the large cockroach in the food bowl and concerns about the shared broth, N.H and her boyfriend decided to leave behind the two bowls of noodles and only eat the tokbokki.
At the cashier counter, N.H continued to voice her dissatisfaction to the counter staff. “But it seems they did not know what had happened. They said ‘please understand’ and still charged the full bill for 2 bowls of noodles and 1 portion of tokbokki,” N.H recounted.
According to the female customer, the unprofessional handling attitude of the noodle restaurant staff made her even more upset. N.H stated that finding a cockroach in the food was not a minor issue, and the way the restaurant handled it made her feel dissatisfied.
N.H decided to share her experience on a community group, and the post received thousands of interactions. At this point, the restaurant owner contacted N.H and requested her to remove the post, but she refused.
“I waited a long time to post, if the restaurant truly cared about customer experiences, they wouldn’t wait for a new post to apologize. Additionally, I also observed many dirty bowls not cleaned along the way to the second floor, and I am concerned about the food hygiene issue here,” N.H said.
She also mentioned that she would never return to this restaurant.
When contacted by a representative of Seoul Deli spicy noodle restaurant at Chua Lang, they stated: “We have apologized, but the customer still says it’s not satisfactory, so we don’t know what would be deemed satisfactory.”
Regarding the food safety hygiene issue at the restaurant, the representative declined to comment.
