The old house of Mrs. Nguyet Minh and her husband in Bui Xuong Trach (Thanh Xuan district, Hanoi) has a modest area, only 38m2 per floor. Since it was built 20 years ago, the architecture and functionality of the house are no longer suitable for the present.

At the end of 2021, Mrs. Minh and her husband decided to renovate the house, turning it into a beautiful and convenient home.

Mrs. Minh shared: “During the renovation process, the most challenging part was balancing the budget and coming up with a design concept for a modest space. My husband and I calculated a lot to optimize costs, ensure aesthetics, and provide enough functionality and convenience for the family’s activities.

I also researched many styles, read articles on interior design and architecture forums, and saw that everyone’s homes were beautiful. At that time, I just wanted to bring all that beauty home.”

Finally, Mrs. Minh and her husband decided to hire a specialized interior design company. Mrs. Minh requested an optimized space with natural light, more greenery, modern furniture, and minimalism.

The architect decided to retain the frame of the old house and reorganize the functional areas.

Mrs. Minh mentioned that she and her husband live simply, so they own very few possessions. Therefore, the house was liberated in terms of space.

On the first floor, Mrs. Minh decorated mainly in a Nordic style. The furniture follows the main tones of gray, white, and wood. The second floor has many gold-colored PVD details combined with white decorations, wooden floors laid in a herringbone pattern, making the space more spacious and luxurious.

The renovation process from ideation to completion took about 3 months. The house was completely transformed after being renovated. “My friends often compliment, after the renovation, the house is like a duck turning into a swan,” Mrs. Minh said.

Mrs. Minh’s favorite area in the house is the kitchen because it is fully equipped and where she and her husband enjoy cozy meals after work.

Mrs. Minh mentioned that the cost of renovating the house was around 800 million VND.

From her own experience, Mrs. Minh advised that to maximize cost savings during house renovation, each family should focus on essential areas such as the kitchen and bedroom. For less-used rooms, it is important to consider necessary items and select suitable materials.

Additionally, even if hiring a design company, families should take the time to closely monitor the construction process to achieve the best results possible. If it’s possible to reuse some old items, don’t hesitate to discuss this option with the architect to find a suitable solution.
