The ceremony was attended by Mr. Nguyen Minh Chau – Deputy Secretary General of VFF, Head of the Organizing Committee (OC) of the tournament, representatives of participating football teams, and media agencies.

In his remarks at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Minh Chau shared that the National Second Division is the highest tournament in the system of non-professional national football tournaments and plays an important role in determining the 02 slots to compete in the National First Division next season. It also serves as a platform to maintain and develop football movements in localities nationwide and provides an environment for players to compete, develop their careers.

VFF believes that with the investment and serious preparation of the teams, the tournament will continue to attract the interest and support of the fans, the quality will be improved, thus contributing to the overall development of Vietnamese football.

To prepare for the tournament, based on the registration of playing fields by the Teams and to ensure convenient movement and cost savings for the teams, VFF has divided the 14 participating teams into 2 groups, with Group A including Tre Ha Noi, PVF, Bac Ninh (transferred from Gia Dinh Club), Tre SHB Da Nang, Tay Nguyen Gia Lai, Kon Tum, Dak Lak; Group B includes An Giang, Dinh Huong Phu Nhuan, Van Hien University (transferred from Tre Quang Nam), Lam Dong, Tien Giang, Tre Ho Chi Minh City and Vinh Long.

Phase 1 of the National Second Division Football Championship 2024 will take place from March 28 to June 10, followed by the final round to determine the 2 promotion spots to the National First Division on June 17.

In Phase 1, teams will compete in a round-robin format to determine ranking points. The top two teams of each group will qualify for the final round in a format where the winner of Group A will face the runner-up of Group B, and vice versa. The two winning teams will receive a prize of 200 million VND and earn the right to participate in the National First Division Championship 2024/25.

A notable new feature this season is that teams will submit their player registration lists on March 8, and then can add, replace up to 5 players until March 20. Especially, at any time during the tournament, if a team has players called up to the youth national teams or the national team, they will be able to add a corresponding number of players.

In case players have completed their duties with the national teams, they will be added or replaced in the club’s squad. This new feature in player registration aims to create favorable conditions for team squads participating in the tournament.

According to the draw results, the first round matches in Group A will take place on March 28 with the following matches: Kon Tum – Tre SHB Da Nang, Dak Lak – Tay Nguyen Gia Lai, Tre Ha Noi – PVF (Bac Ninh Club rests). Meanwhile, Group B will start on the same day with 3 matches: Van Hien University – Dinh Huong Phu Nhuan, Lam Dong – Tre TPHCM, An Giang – Vinh Long (Tien Giang Club rests).
