Samsung has introduced the concept of a smartphone with a curved screen at the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain. The prototype model showcased by Samsung is a smartphone that can be curved to be worn on the wrist, similar to a smartwatch. The product, called Cling Band, looks like a traditional flat smartphone with a camera on the back. However, the highlight of the product is the OLED curved screen technology, with a grooved design that makes it easy to bend. Users can curve the device to wear it on their wrist. Cling Band also features a heart rate sensor on the underside, allowing it to function as a smartwatch with health tracking features when worn on the wrist.

On the other hand, Motorola has also introduced a similar product with a design and functionality similar to Cling Band at MWC 2024. Motorola’s product, which has not been named yet, offers a 6.9-inch screen using pOLED technology with Full HD+ resolution. Unlike Cling Band, Motorola’s curved screen smartphone does not come with a heart rate sensor or camera. The back of the product is made of soft fabric to provide a comfortable feel when worn on the wrist.

Both products, Cling Band and Motorola’s curved screen smartphone, are likely to remain as concept products rather than being developed into commercial smartphones. The idea of a smartphone with a curved screen that can be worn on the wrist is not new, with companies like Moxi Group introducing a similar product in the past using graphene material for the flexible screen. However, these products have not gained widespread acceptance among users and have not been successful commercially.
