During a coffee meeting with businesses on the morning of March 4, Chairman of the Bac Lieu provincial People’s Committee, Pham Van Thieu, shared the difficulties faced by Hacom Bac Lieu Energy Joint Stock Company regarding the incident of the engine casing and fan blade falling at the Hoa Binh 5 wind power plant on March 1.

Thieu revealed that the initial estimated damages amount to around 200 billion VND.

On the sidelines of the morning coffee session, when asked by a reporter from Dan Tri, Tran Phu Chien, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hacom Holdings Investment Joint Stock Company (the project investor), declined to comment on the wind blade incident.

In an exchange with reporters, the leadership of the Hoa Binh district People’s Committee (where the Hoa Binh 5 wind power plant is located) stated that after the incident, the investor temporarily suspended the operation of the wind turbine columns for inspection. The plant is expected to resume operations today.

According to the district leadership, the cause of the incident has not been determined yet. “The broken column and fallen fan blades are awaiting clarification of the cause by experts,” the leadership stated.

Previously, Tran Viet Du, Deputy General Director of Hacom Bac Lieu Energy Joint Stock Company, reported that at around 5:00 PM on March 1, wind turbine WT08 of Hoa Binh 5 wind power plant (phase 1) in Vinh Thinh commune (Hoa Binh district) experienced the casing and fan blade falling incident.

Authorities confirmed that the incident did not cause any harm to individuals on site. The company is cooperating with local authorities to promptly resolve the incident and establish a team to investigate the cause.

The Hoa Binh 5 wind power plant (phase 1) is built on nearly 30 hectares of land with 26 wind turbine columns, each standing at 140m high, with an investment capital of over 3.2 trillion VND.

The plant was inaugurated at the end of April 2022 and is the largest wind power plant on mainland in the Mekong Delta region.
